Telecommunications Operators would receive an additional $1.00 per hour starting

July 1, 2003.

► NURSES: there several salary and benefit improvements which apply only to nurses (nurses should check with their Local for details).

Additional Changes in the Proposed Contract:

Apprenticeships: Sewage Plant Apprentice: currently 2 years, would be 3 years. Street Lighting Maintenance Apprentice would be established to last 2 years

Clothing & Uniform Allowances: For those who currently receive clothing allowance, it would increase from $85 to $170 per year. Uniform allowance would increase from $170 to $340.

Private car mileage: would increase be tied to IRS standard (currently 36¢ per mile).

Overtime in excess of 16 hours in a work day would be paid at double-time rates.

“Frozen Minimum” concession removed from affected classifications. Those classifications would still receive larger-than-normal step increases over 6 years to bring their pay up to parity.

Shift Premiums: Afternoon Shift would increase from 45¢ to 70¢, Midnight from 50¢ to 75¢.

Tuition Refunds: Employee Development: would increase from $600 to $1,200 per year. Undergraduate: from $700 to $1,500. Graduate: from $850 to $1,500.

Residency Requirement: removed.

Funeral Leave: step-son and step-daughter added to “immediate family.”

Good Friday: would be increased from 4 hours to 8 hours “excused time” day.

Unused Sick Leave Paid Out Upon Retirement: would increase to 60% from 50%

Required Licenses Renewal Reimbursements: City would reimburse 50% of such renewal fees for the following classifications: Registered Nurses, First Aid Station Nurse, Medications Licensed Practical Nurse, Social Worker, Money Handler Series.

The following concessions are in the proposed package:

The Mayor would designate representative to represent himself on the Pension Board.

Workers at seven-day worksites would have to call in sick 2 hours prior to the start of their shift, rather than the current 2 hours into their shift

No progress on members’ demands to improve the following provisions:

Grievance Procedure, Temporary Assignments, Vacations, Transfers & Promotions, Longevity Pay,

Retirement & Pension, Health Insurance, Contracting Out.
