Union/Community Rally!
Thursday, April 12, 4-6pm
City-County Building
Jefferson Ave. Entrance

On April 12, Mayor Archer presents his usual big business-oriented budget to City Council. AFSCME Local 207 (representing Detroit Water & Public Lighting workers) is a sponsoring a joint union/community rally to demand that Archer redirect this year’s budget toward providing decent public services to our neighborhoods, and good contracts for city workers. The city should hire and train Detroit youth for secure, good-paying city jobs, and stop privatizing and contracting out city jobs.

Archer’s policy of selling out city services to suburban contractors drains jobs and tax money from Detroit. A portion of this money then ends up buying more influence over our pliable Mayor and City Council, siphoning political power from Detroit. We need more city workers supplied with new equipment so that we can provide the services Detroit deserves, including good public transportation, safe parks, repaved streets, working street lights, etc.

An action-oriented union/community alliance has the political power to change the history of our city. Come to this rally, and help build this new alliance for a better Detroit.
